Lama Chopa is a practice of guru devotion special to the Martsang Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. In Sanskrit, lama is guru, and chopa is offering, so Lama Chopa translates into English as “offering to the spiritual guide.”

This special Lama Chopa practice dedicated to Choje Marpa Sherab Yeshe (1134-1203) the founder of the Martsang Kagyu School, was originally compiled by Drogon Richen and has subsequently been reedited by His Holiness Gangri Karma Rinpoche.

Avalokiteshvara Puja

The practice of Avalokiteshvara helps to create the conditions through which beings are born into the pure land of Dewachen. The essential practice of Avalokiteshvara is single pointed concentration, trusting that one will be reborn in his Pure Land. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is able to benefit sentient beings in three main areas. First, to save them from the sufferings; second, to treat them for the three poisons and third, to respond to their two types of requests. He is also able to reach out to sentient beings and expound the Dharma according to their level of understanding. Besides having great compassion in liberating sentient beings, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva also possesses great wisdom to look deeply into the Five Aggregates and realise their intrinsic empty nature. This enables him to alleviate the sufferings of sentient beings.

1. The Basis; ground/reality how things are.

2. The Path; the three paths to obtaining liberation and four philosophies.

3. The Fruit; freedom from cyclic existence.

Studying Martsang Lam Rim provides a strong foundation in Buddhist knowledge and is an essential prerequisite to Vajrayana practice and retreat.
