The Four Nobel Truths
“I teach suffering, its origin, cessation and path. That’s all I teach”, declared the Buddha 2500 years ago.
This five session course will provide a detailed overview of Buddha’s core teaching; the Four Noble Truths, a deep understanding of which is central to Buddhist practice and philosophy. It was these four principles that the Buddha came to understand during his meditation under the Bodhi tree.
Due to the breadth of the subject, this course is suitable both for beginners and more serious students.
The course will cover:
- The Nature of Suffering – knowing the nature of suffering through the defiled aggregates.
- The Origin of Suffering – understanding the origin of suffering through karma and afflictions.
- The Cessation of Suffering – that the causes can be exhausted and removed.
- Cultivating the Path – the true path that achieves the cessation of suffering.
The fourth Noble Truth, in which the Buddha set out the Eightfold Path, is the prescription, the way to achieve a release from suffering. The class will include a short meditation.
